Jack Shannon Scott Interview

This story originally appeared in RUKUS magazine, in the July 1998 issue. Wendy Clark was the interviewer, Amy English wrote and edited the final story. I hope seeing this brings a smile to your face. What was the Question?an interview with Jack Shannon Scott Shannon Scott, part bohemian, part renaissance man, splits his time between St. Louis and New Orleans. He also splits his time between band, family, and pub. The music is as likable as he is. The mention of the family brings a smile to his face. The pub, located at Menard and Lami in Soulard, is a haven of sorts and a work in progress as much as Shannon is himself. He sat down with our interviewer and between singing along with the jukebox and greeting folks coming and going he managed to answer a few questions for us.

Welcome to the Pub

Hi and welcome to the site! Most of you probably know me, I'm Roger, the guy in the corner who was always taking pictures at the pub. I recently saw this domain had become available, and rather than let it become another spam site, I decided to put up this memorial. This is for Jack and Tim, and also Steve. The bar's gone, and so are they, but never will they be forgotten. I hope this site will be a place for old friends to reconnect, a place to keep the dream alive, and maybe a place for something new to start. It's just an experiment, but something I felt I needed to do. I hope you like it.-Roger

What was Kennealy's?

For those of you reading this who never came to Kennealy's Pub, and don't know anything about it, let me explain.Kennealy's was a small Irish pub in the Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis. It was a haven for artists, poets, dreamers and especially musicians, which explains why it never was much of a success. But in a city where good music was being ignored in favor of cover bands and DJs, it was a breath of fresh air. I'm not going to go into a lot of history here, I'll leave that for another article, or for someone else to write. Suffice it to say, I miss the place, I miss the people, I even miss the drama that often abounded at the place.
